Women encouraged to export.(Australia Department of Industry, Tourism & Resources)(Brief Article)

Oct 04, 2004 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX)

Austrade expects businesswomen to help it achieve a doubling of Australian exporters between 2001 and 2007. Tim Harcourt, the chief economist at Austrade, says the aim is to have 50,000 Australian businesses exporting by 2007. He notes figures from the Australian Department of Industry, Tourism & Resources, showing that about a third of all small business operators are women. Yet Harcourt says women are under-represented in the export sector. He feels that many are ready to sell to overseas market, given the global acceptance of doing business on the internet.
