Vic: Workers occupy factory after stand-downs

Production in Victoria's car manufacturing industry is set to slow after the standing
down of workers at a car components plant in south east Melbourne.

Administrator STEPHEN LONGLEY of PricewaterhouseCoopers stood down the 189 workers
at Ajax Engineered Fasteners this morning after negotiations with car companies ground
to a halt last night.

Mr LONGLEY says the business doesn't have any cash to continue trading after spending
the last of it this week to cover the payroll.

He says the shut-down will lead to a significant disruption in supplies to the automotive
industry .. and he also expects it'll have a flow on effect on the industry.







Ajax Engineered Fasteners .. in Braeside .. has been battling mounting debts and a
row over almost 12 million dollars owed in employee entitlements.
